There is an hour when those who have gotten up early and those who have not yet gone to bed coincide in the ephemeral streets of the Fair of Our Lady of Health. Those who are already working and those who haven't finished the party yet, or those who work serving food and drink to those who keep the flame of the celebration burning. It's six in the morning, the sun is about to appear on Calle del Potro and Mercacórdoba and there are 36 people who strive to turn yesterday into tomorrow. They do the work so that, for example, Monday night, with the many remains of rubbish from the party, turns into Tuesday morning, when everything has to wake up impeccable so that the people of Cordoba walk through a pleasant and clean environment. you will have to start the cycle again. The 36 people who are working on this job are workers from Sadeco, the municipal cleaning company of the Córdoba City Council.Eight drive the three sweepers, the two collection vans and the compactor, two are officers and the remaining 25 are laborers who empty litter bins and, above all, collect the many remains that have been left on the ground after a long party."There are more litter bins than moles," says the motto, and the truth is that many are full of glasses, plates and paper, but others have found the floor better. They do it starting around the Arenal bridge and towards the interior of the enclosure and although their shift ends at 12:30, the curious who approaches at 9:00 will see that there is very little left on the ground. The landscape of a fun battle ended in the early hours of a morning that in May is always an early riser. So when the next day begins, to the rhythm of the professionals who dedicate themselves to work with the energy of someone who has to rebuild the world, it seems that nothing has happened in Arenal. On nights like the one that has just ended, there is a reinforcement in the area of the Balcón del Guadalquivir, where the already traditional bottle takes place, to finish with the remains that had remained from the afternoon and the night before. The work is not small: in 2019, the last year in which the Fair of Our Lady of Health was held normally, 416 tons of waste were collected, of which 216.8 corresponded to garbage, 151 came from cleaning road and 42.5 were glass collection. The work that begins at six in the morning also includes collecting what has been left in the plastic containers that are in the back of the booths, and they make a circuit until they collect everything that has been left so that the next day also the interior of the facilities does not present residues from the previous day.Two other trucks collect the cardboard to recycle it, and a lot is generated in the booths, and one more takes care of the glass. The containers are also washed once the trucks have removed everything that was left inside. In the afternoon a new shift starts working while the party is in full swing. They are between 2:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. with two vehicles and between 3 and 5 workers, depending on the intensity of work expected each day due to the influx. They collect litter bins, sweep and water the albero, among many other jobs.In total, up to 105 Sadeco professionals work in one of the shifts during the nine days that the Fair of Our Lady of Health lasts, some also in the care of green areas and in the care of portable toilets. Some do it, not in El Arenal, which is where the festival is held, but in all the neighborhoods that surround it, from Campo de la Verdad to El Arcángel, because their neighbors are well aware of the effects that traffic can sometimes have. people who go and especially come from the Fair. They reach the Roman Bridge, Miraflores and Cádiz Avenue, among other points. We want to get to know you so that we can offer you content according to your preferences.
